Why it is Important to Update Your Website

You want them to keep coming back right? If the answer to that question was yes, pay attention to the following tips I have outlined for your below.

Keep Content Updated

Anyone who has a website knows that the most important part of your website is the content. Posting great content gives your website visitors a reason to re-visit your website and builds credibility with your audience.

When visitors come to your website, you want to give them a reason to come back. Make sure you are posting content consistently. Don’t forget that what you post should be helpful and engage your audience.

Make Sure Your Website is Mobile Friendly

No longer are website users only using desktop computers. Your website visitors are now using mobile devices such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets. To make every visit to your website a great experience you need to have a mobile-friendly, responsive website.

A responsive website is one that adapts to the content on the device that you are using, regardless of its size. The use of mobile devices is increasing rapidly and there is no indication that this will change. It is a must to update your website to support these mobile users or you will be setting yourself up to drive these potential customers away.

Poor Navigation

There’s nothing worse than going to a website to find specific information and not being able to locate it. It is crucial that your website visitors can easily find the information that they are looking for.

We want to make sure that when someone visits our website, the UX (user experience) is an awesome one. A good UX on a site is one that is easy to use, easy to find information and a site that loads quickly.

Ensuring that our website visitors can maneuver throughout your site with ease and find what they are looking for is extremely important.

  1. great post.  I do try to keep my website up to date. I do however have some issues with site speed at times.  I will use the 2 reccomendations you mentioned for that.  Main issue I get is with widgits and things. Some are quite slow but are really handy. You got any advise for things like that?

    1. Glad you enjoyed the article, Sam. From time to time, I too have issues with website speed. Some widgets and photos do slow down websites. It is a frustrating process sometimes. I make sure that I compress all pictures prior to uploading.

For the widgets I have found that it is a line of code that needs to be adjusted. You can try plugins like Autoptimize to help with that. Some of these plugins work well and some cause more problems. It depends on how compatible it is with your template. This issue is the css needs to be minified and the Javascript needs to be modified as well.

I wish you all the best with your website!

  2. Yes. It’s very important to update your website so as to make it look more appealing to viewers. I’ll call it rebranding in a way. Just as companies rebrand their products so as to beat competition, I believe that we should also rebrand our website when we update it, to attract new members.

    1. Dhayours, I definitely agree that we need to attract new visitors, consistently. I do believe that we should always be looking for ways to improve our sites as well.

I am glad that you enjoyed the article. You are very welcome.

  4. I have to do a regular updating of my content.  Not only posting regularly but adding some important changes to the old posts if they needed to be revised in order to give the right information on something that has changed for years.

If there are plugins that are outdated and needed to be upgraded I should upgrade them.

Thank you for this post that reminds me of the importance of an updated website.

    1. Abagatan,

I think between creating fresh content, website and content SEO, we get so busy making it easy to overlook updating our old content. Right now, I am working through and updating my old posts and updating my website navigation. Sometimes it gets overwhelming.

Thanks for visiting and leaving your thoughts. I wish you all the best with your site.

  5. Dear Shwana,

This was very insightful and You have given me plenty to think about here. This post is so thorough it opened my eyes to all sorts of information I wasn’t aware of!

I am a full-time blogger and to be honest with you I write 2 to 3 blog posts per month after reading your post I realized the mistakes I am doing and less content is the reason I am not getting enough traffic and also the bounce rate is so high in my site.

I did a test with the use of pingdom and its very help. I recently learned that website speed plays an important role in our ranking as well.

Thanks again for the helpful post.

Wishing you all the very best!

    1. Hello Paul,

Glad you liked the article, I always try to be helpful. As a full-time blogger you need to be posting as much content as you can, a lot more than 2-3 posts per month. That is the only way to increase your website traffic. Personally, I recommend posting at least 10-12 articles per month, 2-3 per week.

If your bounce rate is high you might want to look at the reason why your website visitors are not staying long on your site. Is your content grabbing your visitor’s attention?  You do need to make this a priority along with your site speed.

  6. I completely agree with you on the tips that you’ve given your readers on how to update and maintain a website so the readers come back for more! I’m especially someone who leaves a website if it is slow and not uploading fast enough. I suppose that makes me impatient, haha! I actually didn’t know there were places you could test your site speed as you mentioned. I will have to try them out for my website. Thanks for sharing these tips!

    1. Hey Jeremy, glad you like the article. I guess we are both impatient people, I also leave slow websites very quickly! I just don’t have the time to wait for the information that I need right away. It’s unfortunate that we might be missing out on good information by leaving those slow websites so fast.

Definitely test your website’s speed, it is so important to know where you can improve your site speed.
